100 is the first iteration of
SanctionedArray’s database, where SpecifyOthers appointed — artists, scholars, curators, producers — to look at the videos received during the first open call for submissions to
SanctionedArray held during October 2010. The frameworks for this iteration was to represent multiplicity with 100 videos collectively selected by fourteen invited jurors through a

Jurors were also asked to define their selection criteria. Some noted their bias towards videos from the sanctioned countries and their topical inclinations, such as “identity politics, femininity” or “socio-political, institutional, urban and environmental issues.” While other jurors noted on an “absurd quality in terms of a connection to political issues” in the videos. Moreover; a considerable distinction was made that video is not film or documentary with a strong relation to the medium of a video-database of particular results or as the jurors c-f note “the case of a video/new media combo.”
A selection is an exercise in conscious looking; even though the onlooker may or may not know what she or he is looking for. The database provides an opportunity to find out and investigate.
100 iterates a collective specificity with juror choices representing each facet of their work integrated in the selections ranging from archival to current.
Other iterations of
SanctionedArray include
Others2Specify by SpecifyOthers as part of
CuratorsArray – a series of curated exhibitions from the database.
